Hate Exercising?

Do you hate exercising? Or do you find it impossible to find time for exercising? And do you fail again and again getting into the routine?

Then this Ted talk is for you!

Danish professor Bente Klarlund has researched the benefits of exercise and the results have been so convincing that she, who loathes exercise herself, have convinced herself to exercise.

Get the old bike out

“Those who think they do not have time for exercise will sooner or later have to find time for illness.” Edward Stanley

Professor Klarlund says “people don’t ask me, when do I excercise too much, they ask how little can I get away with?”

The great news is that a little exercise goes a long way, a very long way! A little exercise makes a big difference!

Research shows that exercise protects against 35 disorders and diseases, type 2 diabetes heart disease, cancer and dementia, to name a few. There is even evidence that exercise can be used as treatment for these chronic diseases!

As little as 30 min walking a day will cut your chances of getting sick with 30% – 1 hours walk per day by half! And by running it is even better!

If you really hate exercising Professor Klarlund suggests

  • skipping the elevator
  • using walk and talk meetings at work
  • biking to work
  • walking to the baker for your daily bread

Even presumably insignificant changes can have a significant positive impact on your health.

Check out her fantastic Ted Talk and find out more – it is very reassuring!

  1. No problem with exercising here Anne but I want to listen to this TED talk as I have fallen in love with them -exercise is one of those things I simply could not exist without! Thank you for sharing this! xo

    • Thanks dear Shira! I love Ted Talks too, I hope you enjoy this one! – Did you hear that Ted Talks are coming to Vancouver?
I am addicted to my exercise now, but it sure was not always like that!

    • I am so glad it was helpful to you! I think her message is so great- it can feel so overwhelming, but knowing that a little goes a long way, makes it something we can all do and benefit from in a great way!

  2. I don’t mind exercise, in fact, I run on my treadmill more for sanity than exercise. And I try to make my yoga class twice a week. Unfortunately time is always a factor for me. I really should exercise more, especially the older I get. Thanks for the reminder. I was just sitting at my desk thinking to myself that I really needed to get on the treadmill or take my little pup for a walk. LOL!

  3. I think it’s really about finding the type of exercise that works for you! I used to try and force myself to run, but I hated it. I realized I LOVE walking — And I can’t go a day without my daily walk with the dog. Plus I get outside in nature too (bet there’s some good research on how good that is too somewhere!). Thanks for sharing, Anne! xoxo

    • So true – finding the right type of exercise is crucial if we want to make it a happy habit.
You are so lucky you have a dog! Nothing like hiking with your dog.
Yes research about the benefits of being out in nature – I just saw that somewhere. I think they called it forest therapy 🙂
      xxxooo

  4. I was passionate about yoga. Am guilty of skipping classes for the last few months:-( Shall have to get back to my old routine. Thanks for the reminder Anne :-).

    • Ah yes – yoga is wonderful! I must get back into a yoga routine – now that the weather is getting warmer I will bring out the matt and do my morning yoga in the garden.
Thank you for inspiring me Madhu 🙂

  5. I love practising yoga & do fitness, cardio & power training with weights too! I bike & walk a lot too! I can’t do without my passions because I like doing them & they keep me fit!

  6. Truth hurts, more if we have to accept it. ““Those who think they do not have time for exercise will sooner or later have to find time for illness.” A few weeks ago, I panicked when in less than 2 months I gained 10 pounds. At 41, not really funny. I took a plunge and did My fitness Pal calorie count and started exercising. Lost 5 pounds in 5 weeks and gained 3 buddies to share the journey towards better health, that includes my wife. Great post.

    • Wow that is beautiful, I love it 🙂
Before you know it you will be super fit and have lost those extra pounds 🙂
The body is so grateful when we give it what it needs!
So much more fun to share the journey too 🙂

  7. I went to the gym for the first time in 5 weeks yesterday and THEN I went for a run. I believe in everything in this post. Exercise has such a huge impact on my life and how well it goes. Thanks for the info Anne 🙂

  8. Hubby and I both went for a full medical exam yesterday and were pronounced 100% fit. The doctor said that the two most important things are exercise and not smoking. I couldn’t agree more. 🙂
